Dorothy Lorraine Cooper, “Deeda”, passed away on November 8th, just 2 weeks shy of her 100th birthday. A fifth generation Floridian from Wauchula, FL, she met her husband John R. Cooper on a blind date in 1940. He declared she would be his bride that night.
She followed him from Air Force base to base during WWII and then they returned to Florida.

She is survived by her son John S. Cooper, of Orlando and a daughter, Susan Cooper, of St. Petersburg. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Cooper Odem. Dorothy is also survived by a special niece, Suzanne Davis, three treasured grandchildren; Lorraine (Billy) Robinson of Fernandina Beach, Christina (Colin) Berry of John’s Creek, GA and Katherine (Kevin) Davis of Seattle, WA, plus five great grandchildren; Audrey & Avery Berry, MacKenzie Robinson and Caian & Jaelyn Davis.

A decorative painter, she always said that “her family was her greatest work of art”. Managing a clothing store, she still found time to dote on her family, her friends from church and to play enthusiastic bridge till she was in her late 90’s and to shop estate sales every weekend.

A devout Catholic, she was an example of kindness and good humor for a myriad of extended family and friends. She will be missed by many.

Special thanks for the care she received from the kind folks at Terra Vista Rehabilitation. Funeral Mass will take place at 11am on Saturday, November 24, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Orlando. Arrangements entrusted to Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home.
