Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.

John and I were both 3/4 Marines. Not in the same company in Vietnam. I think I met John in Savannah in 2007. I also talked to John about fighting the VA and he guided me through that mine field. Always ready to help a fellow Marine. John was the kind of guy who would help out anyone who needed or ask for help. He will be missed. A great guy and a great Marine!

To Aunt Lydia, and family: Our deepest condolences. Eternal be his memory. [From Chris] I have known Uncle John for only a few years now. In my conversations with him at family functions, I was amazed at his unbelievable life experiences, his dedication to his wife, family and grandchildren, and his strong belief in God and country--I can't imagine what he went through in his life, but he seemed to have emerged as a "straight shooter" with so much love. We will miss him dearly. May God give all of you strength and courage to persevere with the memory of his love. Again, our deepest condolences--with all of our Love and prayers, Chris and Katherine Giantsopoulos

I had the pleasure of diving with John and Lydia on three fabulous Caribbean vacations recently. John was a great dive buddy, very competent, and always up for the extra dive. We were on a night dive recently and saw the hugest turtle ever. We had so much fun underwater, and I think he is now in a place where he can forever swim with the turtles. RIP dive buddy, you will be missed very much.

John taught 6th grade in the Mount Sinai Middle School, he was a special presence. He touched the lives of many students in a very positive way. As the school nurse we had many fascinating discussions. I am thankful that he was happy in his retirement and he died doing something he loved. To the family I send my deepest sympathy. As you go through this difficult time try to remember all the great memories of your life with John. He will always be with you. Love, Lynn Jordan, R.N.

The news about John's passing was shocking to hear. As a long-time colleague and friend I took the time to reflect on the genuineness of this man. His life was filled with love of family, dedication to the seeking of truth that existed around him, fine-tuning his passions for living, and learning new things about himself as a man, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was missed in the teaching community when he retired and he will be missed in the blessed, fun-filled life that embraced him and his family and friends. John was a generous man who welcomed all with open arms. I will miss the knowing of his new accomplishments and adventures, but I believe that he will always be surrounded by the love of many with the many memories and stories that will be shared. I feel honored to have worked with and known John, and I send to all his family prayers and loving light.
